Be Your Own You

 The Definition of ME!

The first step of being a friend with yourself is knowing the true you. Where do you stand? What are your opinions? Before you answer those questions, think: how many of these decisions and choices have I made on my own? How many are just influences from my friends’ opinions? It is so important to stay true to yourself! However, unfortunately, it is very easy to fall under influence by our friends’ opinions. Here are some of the top choices and decisions people make based on their friends’ biases.

  1. Clothes

  2. Music

  3. Food

  4. Friends to Hang Out With At Lunchtime

  5. Places to Go On The Weekend

  6. Favorite After-School Activities

  7. Classes

Make sure to let your true self shine and not let others create a different picture of you. You get to decide who you want to be and where you want to go in life. You are amazing, so your definition of yourself should reflect on those special talents and unique personalities that you have.

Is the “Online You” the Real You?

Ask yourself this question: Am I the real me online? Whether you realize it or not, you have a persona online.  This persona may be the same or different in comparison to the real you.  No matter who you are, it is important to be the real you online.  You should avoid doing things online that you do not agree with or are not safe.  Examples of unsafe things that people have been doing recently are the Tide Pod challenge where you eat a Tide detergent pod, and the Benadryl challenge where you drink way more than the recommended dose of Benadryl.  Both of these “challenges” are very dangerous for your health.  There are people who have had to go to the emergency room because they went along with the crowd and weren’t thinking for themselves.  They wanted the online version of themselves to become famous because they did something that endangered their health to fit in.  They were acting like others wanted them to act.  In all honesty, those are extreme examples of why you should be your own you and why you should not go with the crowd.  Some less extreme examples would be what you do when you see cyber bullying or what types of things you post online.  Sometimes, the nicest people in real life can be the worst online bullies because they prefer to say something anonymously rather than say it to the person’s face.  We should be more caring towards others.  You never know what they are going through.  Try to be the real you online because it will help make the online world a safer, better place.

Self-Wellness

Since this pandemic started, we have been kept away from other people.  You aren’t allowed to hug others, you can’t make physical contact with them, and you can’t go to restaurants with friends depending on where you live.  We live in constant fear that we might get COVID-19.  This is why it is extremely important to keep an eye on your physical, mental/emotional, and social wellness.  Below is a video explaining what the Wellness Triangle is and how it works.

The Wellness Triangle, also known as the health circle, includes three major sections: physical, social, and mental/emotional health. It is important that you also understand that each side of the triangle relies on the other two sides it is touching.  In a triangle ∆ , each side leans on the end of the other two sides.  If one side of the triangle disappears, the remaining sides of the triangle will fall over.  The same thing goes for your physical, social, and mental/emotional health.  It is very important to keep each side of your triangle balanced and healthy.

The following links can give you some ideas to help you keep the social, physical, and mental/emotional parts of your Wellness Triangle healthy.
